Some recent
images of Comet Holmes (17/P) are
below.
A very nice collection of
spectroscopic data on the comet
by Christian Buil can be found here. |

 |
| The comet as
it appeared on November
16, 2007. This
image was acquired
through an 80-mm
refractor coupled to a
Collins Electro Optics I3
image intensifier at
prime focus. The image
was recorded with a
digital camera in an
afocal configuration (i.e.,
with the camera lens
jammed up against the
intensfier lens).
The bright
star to the lower right
of the comet is Mirfak (alpha
Persei). The halo around
this star is an artifact
of the image
intensification process

| Another
image of the comet
captured on November 16,
2007. The intensfier
screen was enlarged with
the digital camera zoom.
A map with
an image of the comet
superimposed can be found
here.
The map was generated
with Cartes du Ciel
software.

 |
| The comet as
it appeared on October 28,
2007 (October 29, 01:30
UT.) This
image was acquired
through a 10-inch
Newtonian telescope with
a Collins Electro Optics
I3 image
intensifier at prime
focus. The image was
recorded with a digital
camera.
There were
three distinct points of
light within the coma
that were visible through
the intensifier, two of
which were captured in
the image. These appear
to be background stars
visible through the coma.

| Another
image of the comet
captured on October 28,
2007. This image was made
on slide film (Fuji
Sensia 400). |

|
 |
| This
image was acquired on
October 28, 2007 using an
image intensifier as
described above, but with
a 2x Barlow lens in front
of the intensifier for
additional magnification. |

|
Another
image acquired on slide
film, but enlarged to
show detail within in the
coma.

| Another
intensified image
captured on October 28,
2007, enlarged to show
detail. |
